"Sankofa" a Twi expression that means 'Go back and get it!' It represents the importance of learning from the past, respecting ones roots, and avoiding arrogance. This painting depicts an older man teaching the three younger men to learn from their past through the playing of the game 'Oware'. (A board game considered to be the national game of the Ashanti region. It is considered the oldest mankala board game in the world dating back centuries to ancient Africa, specifically the Ashanti tribe in Ghana)
