About us

How it started

HowFar comes from a common West African greeting — a casual way of saying “How are you?” or “What’s up?”

It felt right for what we wanted to build: something open, human, and connected. It's also our favourite expression.

The idea for HowFar Gallery came from our time living and working in West Africa. Petter Melå first had the thought while in Nigeria, and when he later met Alistair Ledingham in Ghana, it quickly turned into something real. We both saw the same thing — an incredible amount of creative talent, but few ways for artists to share their work with the world.

Why we do it

In Europe, we’d see homes filled with the same generic, mass-produced prints. We wanted to create an alternative — art that means something, made by real people.

So we started producing high-quality reproductions of original works by Ghanaian artists.

It’s a simple model: each piece is printed close to the buyer, which keeps delivery fast and reduces environmental impact, while the artist earns a share from every sale.

The artists

The artists that we work with are incredible talents, and many are women whose work deserves more visibility.

By offering reproductions, we help them earn more consistently — not just when an original sells.

Beyond the prints

We also host exhibitions in Accra where our artists show both their originals and our prints.

It’s a chance for people to meet the artists, see the work in person, and often to start collecting art for the first time.

What we believe

Every print we sell is a connection — between artist and buyer, between Ghana and the world.

That’s what HowFar Gallery is about: art without borders.
