Meet the artist
Chrystabel Changdu is a dynamic young artist from Accra, Ghana, who creates her vibrant abstract paintings in a studio within her grandmother’s house in the lively Kotoba neighborhood. Her grandmother, once a seamstress for the military, is now in her 90s and remains active by running a small shop and a neighborhood "chop-shop" that serves beer and delicious chicken, providing her with extra income and a hub of local activity.
Accra, the bustling capital of Ghana, is a city where tradition and modernity coexist, and it is within this vibrant environment that Chrystabel finds inspiration. Alongside her art, she also designs unique bags and clothing, which are displayed at "El Loko," a local store where she works. Her work, like the piece titled "Religious Hypocrisy," reflects her deep curiosity and critical perspective on the world around her.
Chrystabel's life is a blend of joyful creativity and cultural heritage. Her passion for both sewing and painting has been shaped by her grandmother’s influence, and she expresses this through her artwork and designs. Known for her infectious laughter and bright spirit, Chrystabel continues to make her mark on Accra’s artistic scene, contributing to the rich tapestry of creativity in the city.
